My girlfriend had toured once before, but years ago and this time we had to go together. Our tour guide was absolutely wonderful, full of knowledge, friendly and helpful as well. I'm terrible with names, but a pretty brunette woman, she was simply outstanding! A beautiful place that houses, in my opinion, America's best business man. We need men like him again. A nice activity to learn more about him. Don't go to Jim Thorpe without stopping here!
We visited the mansion October 8th. While we enjoyed seeing the mansion we found the tour guide and the security guard to be very unfriendly and rude. From the very beginning of the tour we found it to be very cold and unwelcoming. We were told at the beginning of the tour no photography which is understandable. They never told us to silence our phones. My friends phone beeped and per proper etiquette she got out the phone to turn it off(not answer it). The security guard immediately in a rude manner told her the phone would be his if she did not put it away. Then the tour guide gave her a 5 minute lecture on the fact that we knew phones were not allowed to be used. This is just one example of their lack of professionalism. The tour guide was very knowledgeable of the family and property. It’s a shame she was not able to convey the information in a friendly and welcoming way. We left the tour early.
Pretty much everything in this house is original or updated by the original owners, so it's truly like stepping back in time. The tour guide really knew her stuff, too. I loved every second of the tour!
Wonderful tour of this house which has most of the original furnishings. The docent was very knowledgeable. The only negative is that there are no rest rooms available for visitors. At $10 entry fee perhaps they could use some of their receipts to endure visitor comforts.
Pretty awesome place. No inside photography allowed but it’s so unique I’ve gotten to tour it three times over the last several years. Learned something new each time. The stained glass and the historical flavor is amazing.
